Kick off August with an active, family race that also benefits the community! There are three great causes to support this month at events that will get your family moving.

1. Walk for Children & Families at Big Dam Bridge: Participants of all ages are invited to walk across the Big Dam Bridge on behalf of the children and families served by Methodist Family Health. This family-friendly event will feature live music by the Gable Bradley Band, free Frosty Treats ice cream, free pizza, games and more. Every participant receives a T-shirt. Proceeds from the walk will be used for an "extreme makeover" of the Methodist Children's Home Residential Treatment Center school in Little Rock and completion of an age-appropriate playground at Methodist Behavioral Hospital in Maumelle. Check-in starts at 5:30 p.m., and the walk begins at 6:30 p.m. Parking is at Crystal Hill Elementary School with a free shuttle to the Big Dam Bridge. $20; families $50. 5:30-8:30 p.m. Aug. 1. For info: (501) 906-4201, MethodistFamily.org.

2. Milk Run 5K at Murray Park: Don your running gear for a timed run across the Big Dam Bridge. Everyone is welcome, including skilled runners, walkers, those with strollers and kids. The funds raised will benefit local breastfeeding support groups and education programs in central Arkansas. $25, children under 12 free. 7-10 a.m. Aug. 16. For info: (501) 350-2353, ARBFC.org.

3. Rollin' on the River Race & Family Fun Walk at Clinton Presidential Center: Support Easter Seals Arkansas at this annual event. Two races start the day, and then the fun really begins with a bouncy house, petting zoo, games, obstacle course, photo booth and face paiting. The 5K race begins at 7 a.m., and the 2K Family Fun walk starts at 8 a.m. Registration price varies. 7 a.m. Aug. 23.
