So long, summer. Go out with a bang and party away Labor Day weekend -- family style, of course! Here are 10 ideas for family fun over the holiday weekend, from a rowing regatta to the first Hogs game of the season.

1. Sail away. Or at least watch from the banks of the Arkansas River, as nine crews race in the Six Bridges Regatta, the first regatta on the Arkansas River since 1938! The 5K head race, hosted by the Arkansas Boathouse Club, will be held Aug. 30. At the Junction Bridge, you'll find a celebration with food trucks, a beer garden and tethered hot air balloon rides. And, on Saturday night, the trolley will offer free rides to restaurants on both sides of the river. Races are from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m.; a final ceremony will begin at approximately 4:30 p.m. The event is free for spectators. For info: ArkansasBoathouseClub.org. FREE!

2. Camp out with wild animals...at the Little Rock Zoo's Community Overnight: Snore & Soar on Aug. 29. Children ages 6-12 (along with their guardians) are invited to tour the zoo after dark. Sleepover guests can bring a sleeping bag and tent and sleep under the stars (optional indoor sleeping quarters available). $35 per person. 6 p.m. Aug. 29-9 a.m. Aug. 30. 3. Enjoy the outdoors. It's Arkansas State Park's Legacy Week and all week, you can enjoy programming centered on the heritage, conservation efforts, and unique environment that  Pinnacle Mountain State Park has maintained over the years. Weekend activities include a nature scavenger huntLabor Day lake cruises, and a canoe float on the Big Maumelle. Plus, kids can participate in an owl chorus, play Danger Bingo and learn about the black bears that live in the Ouachita Mountains. Activity prices vary; many are free. 4. Take a dip. Labor Day weekend is your last chance to splash around at many of the local water parks and splash pads before they close for the season! For details on five water parks open this weekend, read our full blog post here.

5. Get a sugar rush. Families can hear about the Plantation Agriculture Museum’s legacy as a state park and sample some free, old-fashioned, homemade ice cream at its annual Legacy Week Ice Cream Social. Supplies are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. 1-2 p.m. Aug. 30. For info: ArkansasStateParks.com/PlantationAgricultureMuseum. FREE!

6. Search for Sasquatch. Don't miss the enchanting Mystic Creatures exhibit at Garvan Woodland Gardens before it closes Aug. 31. Adventure through the gardens to spy a giant sea serpent, the 'Shroom Family, a fairy village and more. $10, ages 6-12 $5, children under 6 free. 9 a.m.-6 p.m. through Aug. 31. 7. Hang out at Bass Pro's free festival. Send off summer at the Labor Day Hometown Festival Aug. 30-31, where children can pick a plastic duck from the duck pond for prizes, participate in a casting challenge, have their faces painted, enjoy free hot dogs, ice cream and other food samples, and make an owl craft. 8. Celebrate Arkansas history during Petit Jean Founders & Builders Day on Aug. 30. In 1923, Petit Jean became the first state park in Arkansas thanks to the efforts of Dr. T.W. Hardison and others. In 1933, the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) laid the foundation for the park as we know it today. All weekend, families can enjoy special activities: go on a riddle hunt, learn some of the stories of the mountain, take a night hike, listen to "The Lorax" during storytime, discover Arkansas' state butterfly and more. 9. Meet Mr. Ed. Ok, maybe you won't meet the original Mr. Ed. But you can observe more than 1,300 riders  competing in events at the 51st Annual Arkansas State Championship Horse Show at Arkansas State Fairgrounds. The equestrians will show off their skills, from gaiting to speed runs. $8. Events begin at 8 a.m. each day; Aug. 29-Sept. 1. For info: ArkansasStateFair.com.

10. Call the Hogs at the first game of the season. Woo pig! You'll find football fans in Fayetteville for the holiday weekend to watch as the Razorbacks kick off a new season. The Hogs will play Auburn on Saturday, Aug. 30. For info: ArkansasRazorbacks.com.
