January is a great time to spot a majestic raptor and learn more about migration patterns, habitats and conservation efforts. Here are four educational events at Arkansas State Parks this January.

Bald Eagle Tours at Lake Catherine State Park in Hot Springs: Take a boat or hiking tour for a chance to see the awe-inspiring bald eagle. Bald eagles are migratory raptors that pass over Lake Catherine in the winter. Sign up in advance for a boat tour, stop by for a hike, or take part in daily programs about eagles. Eagle Awareness Weekend at Petit Jean State Park: Join park interpreters for two days of programming devoted to our national symbol: the bald eagle. A variety of programs are planned, including field trips to nearby Holla Bend National Wildlife Refuge to look for wintering eagles and other birds. Contact the park for the schedule. Jan. 10-11. Eagle Lake Cruises at Jolly Rogers Marina: Join Pinnacle Mountain State Park interpreters for a cruise on Lake Maumelle to seek wintering bald eagles. Guests may see several eagles and migratory waterfowl. Dress in layers for extreme cold and windy lake weather. Advance payment and registration is required. Eagles Et Cetera at DeGray Lake Resort State Park: Eagle tours are offered in abundance to maximize your chances of spotting one of these majestic creatures in the wild. Expect an extensive lineup of guest speakers and live animal presentations as the group explores all things conservation!
