These summer medical camps provide a traditional, weeklong residential camp experience for children challenged by medical conditions or disabilities. The season consists of five “MedCamp” sessions for children with specific conditions or disabilities, as well as “Kota Camp” sessions that provide an inclusive camping environment for children with and without disabilities. The program is designed to increase campers’ self-esteem by creating opportunities for them to meet personal challenges.

This camp has been hosted by the Arkansas Audubon Society since 1980. Knowledgeable college, high school and self-taught natural science teachers educate campers about subjects like birds, rocks, plants, aquatics, insects, mammals and herps. Campers take early morning walks to identify birds, and engage in both indoor and outdoor hands-on classes. Recreational activities include canoeing, swimming in the lake and volleyball. Plus, each evening, guest speakers present programs on various wildlife related subjects.

Faculty members from the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design share the design profession with students through hands-on projects, tours, presentations and discussions. Students work closely with faculty and collaborate with peers in a fun and creative studio environment as they explore the design process. The camp will be held in three locations: the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas Studies Institute in Little Rock and Garvan Woodland Gardens in Hot Springs. Only the Fayetteville camp will offer a residential option, as well as camps for two experience levels: Design Camp 1 and Advanced Design Camp.

The Harding Honors Media and Culture program is designed to challenge, encourage, and inspire rising high school seniors. Students will study the power of media, examine cultural narratives, and help tell important stories. Methodist Family Health hosts this free overnight therapeutic bereavement camp. Children and their adult caregivers who are grieving the death of a loved one can take part in therapeutic Heart-to-Heart peer support groups, age-appropriate discussion and activities, and time for campers to work and play together.
