A new production opens Jan. 29 at the Arkansas Arts Center Children's Theatre—and it's about time!

Truly, "The 13 Clocks" is actually about time: To rescue Princess Saralinda, Prince Zorn must deliver 1,000 jewels to her icy uncle right as his 13 castle clocks strike 5 o'clock. The problem? Those clocks haven't ticked in seven years! Written by humorist James Thurber (author of "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" and creator of many "New Yorker" magazine cover cartoons), this witty play is a whimsical adventure for kids in third grade and up.

After getting inspired by the show, kids can go on their own adventure through the Arkansas Arts Center's galleries. A free scavenger hunt gives children 10 clues—which they can use to seek out the corresponding artworks in the AAC collection. Once they’ve completed their quest, they can collect their prize.

The play officially opens Jan. 29, though families on a budget can take advantage of the “Pay What You Can” preview performance at 7 p.m. Thursday, January 28. "Pay What You Can" tickets must be purchased in person at the Arkansas Arts Center (501 East 9th St.) from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. at the Stephens Inc. Visitors Center, or from 6-6:45 p.m. at the Children's Theatre Box Office, Lower Lobby Level. The maximum ticket purchase is six tickets per person.

"The 13 Clocks" runs Jan. 29-Feb. 14 at the Arkansas Arts Center Children's Theatre. Shows are 7 p.m. Fri., 2 p.m. Sat. & Sun. Tickets are $12.50, $10 for Arkansas Arts Center members. For info, visit ArkansasArtsCenter.org.
