You can admit it, parents. Sometimes you need a night out where the restaurants have cloth napkins and the entrée options don’t include chicken fingers. Wondering where you can take your significant other on a rare child-free outing? Try out some of these couples activities.

Food

If your favorite restaurant knows your order by heart, it’s time to take your taste buds elsewhere. Cheese lovers can nibble to their hearts’ content at the Kent Walker Artisan Cheese shop and tasting room in downtown Little Rock. On weekend afternoons, take a tour to see how the cheese is made and listen to live music played by local musicians. Then, take a seat on the patio, order a meat and cheese plate and sip a glass of fine wine or local brew.

Follow up a date at Kent Walker’s cheese shop with a sweet stop at Izard Chocolate in Hillcrest. There, you’ll find artisan, locally-made chocolates, truffles & more!

Also try: a gourmet cooking class at Eggshells Kitchen Co. or a food truck meet-up at The Good Earth Garden Center.

Live Entertainment

Trade your regular movie night for an evening of live entertainment at The Joint in downtown North Little Rock. The coffee shop and bar hosts stand-up comedy, improv performances and an acoustic music series in its cabaret theater. On weekends, you and your significant other are sure to get a laugh at a show by The Main Thing, a trio of actors and musicians who perform a fast-paced, original comedy show.

Also try: dinner, drinks and live tunes at South on Main, classical music by the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra, or a play put on by the Arkansas Repertory Theatre.

Art

Love will certainly be in the air as you stroll from gallery to gallery to gaze at artwork, listen to live music and snack on small bites. Best of all, you’ll find this romantic atmosphere in both Little Rock’s and North Little Rock’s downtown areas. Little Rock’s 2nd Friday Art Night participants often include the Historic Arkansas Museum, Butler Center Galleries, Old State House and others. On the third Friday of each month, explore art galleries on the other side of the river during North Little Rock’s Argenta Art Walk, featuring the likes of Laman Library’s Argenta Branch, Claytime, Greg Thompson Fine Art and the Thea Foundation.

Also try: tango lessons or late night hours and lectures at Arkansas Arts Center.

Active

Nothing builds trust like climbing a 30-foot wall while your partner holds the safety rope! Every Friday night from 7-10 p.m., Little Rock Climbing Center offers a “Cheap Date” special. For $45, adventurous couples will receive belay lessons (so you know what to do with the aforementioned rope), gear rentals and two day passes that allow you to roam the 5,000 square feet of climbing space.

Also try: a cycling tour, such as the Pork & Bourbon Bike Tour, from Bobby’s Bike Hike or guided hikes or canoe/kayak floats at Pinnacle Mountain.
