Innovating in the Materials Playground in Museum of Discovery's Imaginate Exhibit.

Imaginate, the newest traveling exhibit to make a stop at Museum of Discovery, is all about possibilities. What happens when you combine science and creativity? Innovation!

When the exhibit debuts on April 9, it will inspire young innovators with interactive stations that explore four themes. All of the activities explore the skills and attitudes that lead to innovation and big discoveries.

Here are the four themes visitors will find!

1. Dream Big: Innovation is often a response to intense motivation, a big dream or extreme passion that one must pursue. This section features examples of big dreams as inspiration—such as flying in an airplane—and allows visitors to test their own paper airplane designs to see which flies the farthest.

2. Expect the Unexpected: Science is a process of questioning, and keen observation and fresh eyes can often allow people to see beyond the obvious. In this section, participants take risks and experiment; in the Materials Playground, visitors can explore and test with a variety of materials, such as glass, metal and even plant material.

3. Collaborate or Compete: Here, participants interact with others, communicate their ideas and then grow them with the contributions of fellow participants. This area features Sound Lab, where visitors can jump and move as they collaborate to make music using giant light-up sound panels.

4. Try, Try and Try Again: Kids can create, test, re-test and even start over. In Racing Irons they can test the speed of surfaces ranging from Teflon to aluminum foil.

Imaginate will be open at the Museum of Discovery April 9-Oct. 2. Hours are 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Tue.-Sat., 1-5 p.m. Sun. The exhibit is included with general admission to the museum: $10, children ages 1-12 $8, children under 1 free.
