Soldiers return home from serving in World War I.

The MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History hosts a traveling exhibition, "War Comes Home: The Legacy," until June 1.

The display illustrates how soldiers communicate with family back home. Historic letters will be on display alongside more contemporary media. Families may read the letters themselves or listen to the letters as recordings via a mobile phone tour.

Stephen McAteer, director of the MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History, says the banner exhibit covers communication from the Civil War up to the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. McAteer says that the event is appropriate for all ages, but children who read may get more out of the experience.

"As with any exhibit, the ability to read is always a plus," McAteer says. "Although, the cell phone tour is bilingual. There is a Spanish and an English version of it."

A variety of perspectives is incorporated into the show: "It is a very diverse exhibit, it looks at African Americans, it looks at Asian Americans, it looks at Hispanic Americans," McAteer says.

The exhibition is free and open to the public during regular operating hours. The museum is open from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Mon.-Sat., 1-4 p.m. Sun. For more info, visit ArkMilitaryHeritage.com.
