The countdown is on. Christmas is drawing near and the kids are anxiously awaiting Santa's arrival.

Visiting jolly old St. Nicholas in the mall or at a holiday parade is already exciting enough. But now we've got a way to write letters to Santa — and get a response!

It takes a little work on your part (yes, mom or dad gets to play the role of Santa here), but it'll be more than worth it to see the kids' faces light up when they get mail from the North Pole.

The U.S. Postal Service has an easy process for you to follow:

  1. Have your child write a letter to Santa and place it in an envelope addressed to: Santa Claus, North Pole.
  2. Later, when alone, open the envelope and write a personalized response.
  3. Insert the response letter into an envelope and address it to the child.
  4. Add the return address: SANTA, NORTH POLE, to the envelope.
  5. Affix a First-Class Mail stamp to the envelope.
  6. Place the complete envelope into a larger envelope with appropriate postage and address it to:
North Pole Postmark
