Bald eagles are an American symbol, but seeing them firsthand is a rare occurence, usuallyonly on zoo visits. The good news is that patriotic and nature-loving families may be able to catch a glimpse of these majestic creatures right here in the wilds of Arkansas.

Petit Jean State Park is hosting an Eagle Awareness Weekend that gives visitors a chance to see bald eagles in their natural habitat Jan. 14-15. The weekend features introduction to eagles lectures, car caravans to Holla Bend and a live raptor show.

Holla Bend features three nests that are part of the car caravan tours. Weather forecasts are calling for rain and low temperatures, so attendees are encouraged to bring extra clothing and to wear clothes that keep them dry. The tours try to make it around to all three nests, but may only get a chance to visit them all on Sunday, due to time constraints.

The Schedule for the Weekend:
Saturday, Jan. 14: An Introduction to Eagles 8:30 a.m., Car Caravan to Holla Bend 9 a.m., Live Raptor Show 1 p.m., Car Caravan to Holla Bend 3 p.m.
Sunday, Jan. 15: An Introduction to Eagles 1:30 p.m., Car Caravan to Holla Bend 2 p.m.
