"The Beauty and the Beast" is everywhere. Chances are families have already been to see the new live-action movie, and if not they've probably at least seen the 1991 animated film of the same name. A local production company is staging a youthful rendition of the classic with "Disney's Beauty and the Beast Jr." May 26-27 at Ron Robinson Theater.

Bearden Productions is a nonprofit that provides arts programs and classes to local children. In this show, the youngest cast member is 8 years old and the oldest is 16 years old. Families that attend may spark a new interest for their kids as they see someone their age on stage.

All of the costumes and set pieces are handmade by the director and her assistants at Bearden Productions. Ballet, tap and jazz dancers from Bearden's studio perform an opening act for about 20 minutes before the hourlong production.

All of the vocalists performing in the musical are local to central Arkansas. Bearden Productions offers acting courses for kids ages 2 years old through grade 12.

Show times are 7 p.m. May 26 and 27 with a 1 p.m. matinee on May 27. Ticket prices are $12 and $8 for kids younger than 10 years old. For more information, call (501) 747-1036 or visit the website.
