Cabot City Beautiful Sponsors Citywide Cleanup
Warmer temperatures and open windows often prompt thoughts of spring cleaning your home. But what about your entire city? Cabot City Beautiful plans to make it happen through its annual city-wide Cabot Cleanup and Waste Drop-Off, to be held from 9 a.m. until noon Saturday, March 19. This annual event is being held in conjunction with the national “Great American Clean-Up” campaign and statewide “Keep Arkansas Beautiful” month.
“Cabot is an attractive community, and we all have a responsibility to keep it clean and attractive,” says Matt Webber, president of Cabot City Beautiful and coordinator for this year’s event. “If Cabot is littered and ill-kept, our potential to attract industry and tourism can be significantly impacted. Simple things can greatly affect economic development. A fresh coat of paint, a few new flower plantings, roadsides and waterways free of litter — they all can make a big difference in Cabot’s future.”
According to Webber, this event is a prime opportunity for anyone in the Cabot area to pitch in and help, including civic and service organizations, church and youth groups, school groups and clubs, and scouting groups, as well as individuals, families, neighborhoods, and businesses. Individuals or groups wishing to volunteers should meet at 9 a.m. March 19 at the Cabot High School football stadium parking lot and check-in at the Big Cleanup Tent. Volunteers will be assigned routes by event coordinators, if they have not already chosen areas themselves. At noon, volunteers will meet back at the stadium parking lot for free food and beverages.
Another aspect of this event is drop-off for “electronic waste” (e-waste) and hazardous household waste (HHW) items. E-waste includes computer components, TVs, VCRs, and other electronic equipment, while HHW includes latex paints, oil-based paints/thinners, automotive oil, antifreeze, fluorescent bulbs, pesticides and herbicides, household cleaners, household batteries, automotive batteries and tires. Items should be in original containers if possible. Commercial waste, ammunition or other explosives, unlabeled/unknown materials, and mercury will not be accepted. This free service will be available for Cabot-area residents on Cleanup Day only.
Because offering this service involves substantial expense, monetary donations to Cabot City Beautiful are welcome. Anyone who has questions or needs additional information can contact Cabot City Beautiful at (501) 920-2212.
