Smoothies can be your family’s new go-to for breakfast or after-school snacks. Find your favorite recipe below and pat yourself on the back for adding more fruit and veggies to your day — all in five minutes or less! Before you get started, make sure you stock your kitchen with the tools, supplies and a few common mix-and-match ingredients.

Tools:

  • Blender

Supplies:

  • Reusable straws - not a must, but an easy way to eliminate single-use plastic from your routine.
  • Reusable pouches or cups with lids for on-the-go-snacking.
  • Mason jars to show off your smoothie's vibrant colors.

Ingredients to have on hand:

  • Frozen fruit: ripe bananas, peaches, mangos, strawberries, blueberries
  • Milk of your choice (unsweetened, nondairy milks tend to produce creamier smoothies)
  • Old-fashioned oats
  • Nut butter
  • Yogurt
  • Greens
  • Ice
  • Chia seeds
  • Fruit juice: pineapple, orange

Secrets to Smoothie Success:

  • Frozen fruit makes the creamiest smoothies. Avocados also create a creamy texture.
  • Use fresh fruit for a thinner consistency — perfect for chilly winter days.
  • Oats will help thicken your smoothies.
  • For picky eaters, make sure to blend (and blend) until completely smooth.
  • Go easy on the add-ins, especially for eaters who are sensitive to texture. Start small with veggies (about a 1/2 cup) and seeds (about 1 tablespoon).
  • Other helpful ratios for creating your own smoothies, start with: 1 cup liquid, 1/2 cup fruit, 1 tablespoon nut butter.

And now you’re ready to try one of these six kid (and parent) pleasing smoothies:
