After a successful run in 2014, the Mystic Creatures topiary art exhibit will return to Garvan Woodland Gardens on May 8. This year's exhibit, "Mystic Creatures: Topiary Art Takes Flight," will feature several new sculptures, including a majestic, 20-foot wide "flaming" Phoenix and a nest of "Mystic Babies" in the Children's Adventure Garden.

Visitors will also see the popular installations from the 2014 exhibit redesigned with new color palettes and plants, and placed in new areas in the gardens. If you didn't see it, last year's exhibit included massive installations--from a 40-foot long sea serpent (pictured above) to the 13-foot tall Sasquatch. There was also a Fairy Gourdmother playhouse, a family of mushrooms and fairy village. (Take a photo tour here.)

Each of the living displays is made of steel forms covered with netting, soil and thousands of brightly colored annuals arranged in intricate patterns.

"Mystic Creatures: Topiary Art Takes Flight" will be open May 8-Aug. 31, 2015. Admission is $15, children ages 6-12 $5, children ages 0-5 free. For more info, visit GarvanGardens.org.
