If your middle school daughter has a knack for math or science, the Girls of Promise conference could help put her on track toward a sucessful career in STEM.

Girls of Promise is a free, two-day conference encouraging eighth grade girls to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Attendees get to participate in fun activities focused on the importance of higher education and the payoff of hard work. Girls meet and learn from women with amazing careers such as scientists, welders, physicians, computer systems engineers and coders.

The conference is limited to 150 students and the deadline to apply is Jan. 13, 2017. The application includes two essay questions and students must provide a recommendation from a teacher.

The event takes places at the Arkansas 4H Center in Ferndale. All students and chaperones who are accepted for the program receive free room and board.

More information and the application are available on the Girls of Promise website.
