The Sylvan Hills Freshman Campus won a $1,000 grant to help start a school recycling and waste reduction program or provide education about those programs.

According to the Pulaski County Special School District Facebook page, the Recycle Advantage School Grant will help teach students the value of recycling and provide them with leadership opportunities.

They received the award on Nov. 16 from RecycleAdvantage, sponsored by the Regional Recycling and Waste Reduction District.

Sylvan Hills Freshman Campus teacher Kyle McGrew applied for the grant and is heading up the recycling initiatives.

“It is our desire to establish a school wide recycling program that works hand in hand with the high school,” McGrew told Little Rock Family. “We are in the process of researching what all materials are needed to start this program. Our students are brainstorming poster ideas and even writing a recycling rap to raise awareness within our school.”
