It is one of our favorite times of the year and to celebrate the frightful season, there are haunted houses scattered through central Arkansas and around the state to scare you beyond belief.

Haunted houses can be fun for the whole family, but your youngest kids may not enjoy the scary surprises, so use your best parental discretion when deciding to spend an evening at a haunted house. 

Prepare to be scared. 

Little Rock

Terrorplex Haunted House: Twice the Terror, 10800 Colonel Glenn Road, Little Rock, — Get terrified at this destination complete with actors and computer-generated and live special effects. There are three haunted houses: The Crypt, Terror Under the Big Top and The Haunted Hospital. $15 for one haunted house, $20 for two or $30 to visit all three. Haunted Cathedral, 1208 Louisiana St., Little Rock — EMOBA's 25th annual fundraiser is one of Arkansas' largest and scariest haunted attractions, using both local actors and animatronics to give patrons the most scare for their buck. Open Oct. 12-13, 19-20 and 24-31; 7:30-9 p.m. on school nights and 7:30 p.m.-midnight Fridays and Saturdays. Celebrate the 25th anniversary with $5 admission for the first 25 guests on opening night. The Haunted Hotel, 3400 Brown St., Little Rock — The Haunted Hotel's veteran staff strives to give the public their money's worth in this spooky hotel. They have been located in Central Arkansas for 20 years. Open Oct. 5-6, 12-13, 18-20, 23-31 and Nov. 2-3; 7-10 p.m. school nights and 7 p.m.-midnight Fridays and Saturdays. North Little Rock

The Reaper Haunted House, 6016 Crystal Hill Road, North Little Rock — The maze-type haunted house has over 15,000 square feet of horror with 30 scenes of blood, gore and mayhem. It's not kid friendly, but not super scary. Opens at 7 p.m. Oct. 5-6, 12-13 and 18-31. Benton

Twisted Intent, 706 Center St., Benton — The Torture Chamber is graphic, gory and self-guided. Not good for small children. Open Oct. 12-13, 19-20, 25-28 and 30-31. Jacksonville

Fear Factory 501, 25120 Hwy. 107, Jacksonville — This haunted house has a heavy dose of clowns to keep you on your toes. Open Oct. 5-6, 12-13, 19-21, 26-28 and 31 and Nov. 2-3 from 7-11 p.m. Kid Friendly Nights are Oct. 21 and 28 from 7-8 p.m. Admission is $15 and $20 Halloween night; $5 extra for a fast pass.
