Favorite Memory from High School: In 10th grade, my English II teacher had the class engage in a Socratic Seminar. She had given us a list of controversial questions to form an opinion on, and the following day we were to engage in a discussion with the class. We had to invite people into the discussion as well as provide our own input. It was so much fun.

In the middle of the discussion, my teacher pulled out a few of us, including myself, because we had talked so much that we had already received full credit for the assignment. My favorite part about that moment was that we, the people who were pulled out, were so engaged in the discussion, that we formed a little huddle on one side of the room and continued to exchange ideas. It wasn’t long before our teacher told us that we couldn’t even do that because we were interfering with the rest of the class’ discussion. We pleaded, but the teacher told us to sit down. It was so enjoyable to have a stimulating conversation with fellow students who were actually enthusiastic about the discussion.
