While working on the February 2015 issue of Little Rock Family, I thought a lot about something I heard in a sermon recently.

Step forward. Be the change you want to see in the world. Don’t be afraid of risk. Be afraid of the opportunities missed!

What if we all took this message to heart and decided we were going to dedicate our lives, energies and resources to being the positive change we want to see in the world? Can you imagine the impact we would have? It’s mind boggling to even think about it.

February is designated in our country as a time we annually observe Black History Month. Indeed, there is cause for celebration! There are countless African-Americans in our community, state and the world over who have dedicated themselves to stepping forward to create a positive change. They’ve risked so much and sometimes everything to work toward the betterment of our society and mend racial divides.

This month’s feature highlights the work of Sericia Cole, Director of the Mosaic Templars Cultural Center, Arkansas’ museum of black history. The museum is a treasure trove of historical interest. It continually implements programming that encourages community involvement, service and education. Plan a time soon to visit the museum with friends and family. You’ll be very glad you did. It’s easily accessible at the corner of Broadway and West Ninth Street in downtown Little Rock. Admission and parking are FREE!

February’s issue of Little Rock Family is also brimming with winter boredom busters, tips for settling sibling spats, ways to bone up on your birthday party survival skills, parenting advice and more. We work hard each month to share info that has a positive impact on families. Let’s all step forward together today and every day to be the change we want to see in the world!
